Oil country lathe (old)

An oil country lathe is a heavy duty lathe built to turn and thread long, heavy pipes used in the oil and gas industry, such as drill pipe, casing, tubing and tool joints. It has a large spindle bore, so long pipes can pass through the headstock, and strong chucks that grip the pipe firmly. These machines cut API and other standard threads accurately, and many models include a gap bed and threading attachments for big diameters. Oil country lathes are used in pipe threading shops, oilfield equipment makers, workshops serving drilling companies and heavy engineering units.
